Keeping the Cossack Spirit Alive: Siromakha Performs in San Francisco
On November 19, 2025, San Francisco transformed into a vibrant stage of cultural exchange as the well-known Ukrainian performer, ethno-singer, and true Cossack Siromakha arrived in the city. His visit brought together the local Ukrainian community and everyone who appreciates Ukrainian culture in the region.

Siromakha, celebrated for his unique blend of traditional Cossack spirit and modern musical elements, filled the evening with explosive energy. The concert featured ancient Cossack songs, traditional “dumy,” pieces performed in the trynda style, as well as new compositions — all of which drew a full audience at the Ukrainian Hall of the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church in San Francisco.

Guests had the opportunity to connect more deeply with the history of the Cossacks, Ukrainian national identity, and the importance of preserving cultural heritage. Events like this are especially meaningful for young people growing up far from home, giving them a chance to stay connected to their roots even across the ocean.

A highlight of the evening was the performance by Sasha Tab, a member of the Eurovision-winning group Kalush Orchestra. His appearance added an exciting spark to the program, as well-known hits — including the iconic “Stefania” — had the entire hall singing along, creating a warm atmosphere of unity and joy.

The nonprofit organization Hromada and the first Ukrainian-American online marketplace in the U.S., Sharvarok, served as informational and media partners for the event, helping bring the celebration to a wider audience.

Special appreciation was extended to the Ukrainian Hall of the Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church and Father Oleh Kepeshchuk for providing the venue. Spaces like this allow Ukrainians to gather for community prayer, fellowship, and the preservation of cultural identity.

We also share our gratitude to the talented photographers and guests of the evening, Danylo Vehera and Oksana Shvets, whose photos beautifully captured the spirit of the performers, the richness of Ukrainian traditional attire, and the genuine emotions of those in attendance.
Events like this carry deep significance for the community — especially for children growing up with a strong sense of patriotism and appreciation for Ukrainian history. They learn about the Cossack era, the many roles and achievements of the Cossacks, their fight for Ukraine’s independence, and their protection of the Ukrainian people.

In addition to the concert, guests enjoyed a charity auction featuring valuable items, including a traditional Cossack saber and Ukrainian flags — further emphasizing the patriotic and community-driven nature of the evening.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended, brought family or friends, and shared this unforgettable night with us.

Knowing our culture, traditions, and history is essential for preserving our identity, passing it on to future generations, and — most importantly — ensuring we do not repeat the mistakes of the past.
Because in unity, we find our strength!
