On February 24, 2023, at the initiative of American artist Niki Watts, an event called “Attempt to Focus” was held in San Francisco. Participants not only meditated and imagined Ukraine after victory and accession to NATO and the EU, but also created a symbolic blanket for Ukrainians in yellow and blue colors.

The event was co-organized by Ukrainian non-governmental organizations in the US and Ukraine, including the Hromada organization, whose chair, Natalia Anyon, also joined in sewing the symbolic blanket.

Despite the rain, Bay Area residents actively participated in the work. Among the participants were Americans, Americans of Ukrainian descent, and Ukrainians who moved to California after the war began. Everyone noted that on the anniversary of the invasion, it was difficult to find words to describe their state of mind, and quiet meditation allowed them to focus and convey their thoughts and dreams for the future of Ukraine through the fabric. Participants sewed flowers, hearts, and even gardens with houses.

According to Niki Watts' plan, the quilt will be continued by residents of Hawaii, where Niki lives, to symbolically convey a piece of their warmth to Ukraine.

The most important outcome of the event was the completion of fundraising, which will be distributed among non-profit partner organizations for the implementation of medical and rehabilitation projects in Ukraine. The funds will help soldiers and their families, as well as internally displaced Ukrainians who have suffered the most from the war.

Igor Tregub, an American of Ukrainian descent and one of the co-organizers of the event, emphasized that this event was made possible thanks to the generosity of caring Americans who support Ukraine with their words and actions and understand the importance of the proposed projects after a year of full-scale invasion.
