On June 1st, International Children’s Day, a charity Gala evening took place at the Tiburon Yacht Club. The event was dedicated to raising funds for children whose parents died in the war, defending Ukraine from Russian aggression.

We sincerely thank everyone who joined and supported this initiative. Without your presence, this evening would not have been possible. Together we shared traditional Ukrainian dishes, sang Ukrainian songs, and enjoyed the entertainment. In short – it was a memorable night.

In total, the amount raised from ticket sales, auction, and lottery reached $5,238. Expenses for food, drinks, and entertainment were $1,356, leaving $3,882 in net proceeds.

Special thanks go to Alina and Arnold Sheger, Volodymyr Parubiy, Mykhailo Markiv, and Ihor Mysak with the band “Buryaky.” Their music created an unforgettable atmosphere. We are also grateful to Ihor Skakun, who performed on traditional Ukrainian folk instruments, bringing everyone closer to the sound of home.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to Oksana Kravchuk and Maria Kashuba for their dedicated efforts in organizing this evening.

The opening remarks were delivered by Myroslava Hrek, who shared how the idea of the Gala evening was born and outlined upcoming charity initiatives for the following year.

Later, Lesya Kaspiw spoke about the work of the Hromada newspaper, reporting on past projects and future plans. She also encouraged participants to share their ideas for expanding the organization’s activities.

A charity lottery was held with all guests participating. The main prize – a coral necklace and a traditional embroidered shirt – went to Lidiya Krashtalovych. Another highlight was the group singing competition, where tables competed in performing Ukrainian folk songs. The winners were the group seated at Orest Balytsky’s table from Toronto, whose performance impressed everyone.

Although attendance was smaller than expected, the event was a success. These gatherings are not only about fundraising but also about uniting the community, ensuring our children preserve the Ukrainian language, culture, and traditions. Such evenings give us the chance to learn, work, celebrate, and stand together. United, we are strong – and together we can help Ukraine defend its freedom and territorial integrity.

Svitlana Kravchuk also shared her reflections on the evening:

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all who contributed to organizing the Gala and to everyone who donated. As it is said, ‘Blessed is the one who gives.’ The Hromada organization annually raises funds to support children who lost their parents in the war. This year, $6,600 was sent. Though it may not be much, every contribution is priceless, and we are grateful to all who give and do not forget.”

She reminded everyone that Hromada continues to collect funds quarterly and sends them directly to children in need.

Once again – heartfelt thanks to all who supported this cause.
